Peru Introduces Streamlined Cargo Procedures

Peru’s National Customs and Tax Administration Superintendence (SUNAT) recently inaugurated an electronic air cargo control center that will screen air cargo imported into and exported from Jorge Chavez International Airport. The new center will use a state-of-the-art pallet scanner to perform non-intrusive inspections of shipments selected in accordance with risk-based criteria.

SUNAT is also considering a new export process that would allow companies to export their goods directly from their establishments and ways to strengthen the authorized economic operator program by providing greater benefits and incorporating ports and airports. The AEO program currently has 49 certified participants with total exports of more than US $1.5 billion in 2016. (source: Sandler & Travis)
